Not only do we have a new story to look forward to in Sonic X Generation, which fans are desperate to see a little kid get shot in, but we also have the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to look forward to, which fans are also hoping features a child getting shot.

We know that the movie will likely feature Maria, the girl that gets shot by a GUN soldier while trying to save Shadow's life, thanks to the recent news that actor Alyla Brown is playing a role in the movie.

We'll have to wait and see whether Shadow's depressing backstory will be properly told in either Sonic the Hedgehog 3 or Sonic X Shadow Generations.

With this tag, Sonic X Shadow Generations is now featured alongside the likes of titles such as Queer Quest, Touchstarved, and a whole host of other dating sims and visual novels in the LGBTQ page's "Coming Soon" section.

Obviously, Steam users messing around with the user-defined tags as a joke is nothing new, as you'll also find games such as Disney Pixar Cars: Radiator Springs Adventure and Lords Mobile in the LGBTQ section as well.

Everything appears pretty normal at first glance, but take a look at the user-defined tags, and you'll notice that Sonic X Shadow Generations has somehow been tagged as an LGBTQ+ game.

In fact, it's currently the game's most popular user-defined tag, somehow making its way above the "Action" and "Platformer" tags.

It was a very popular announcement among Sonic fans, and has brought the Sonadow shippers out in full force, mostly down to the game's very questionable title that will undoubtedly go on to scar curious children and parents in the near future.

The volume in which Sonic x Shadow shippers are rallying around the game is made even more apparent when you take a look at the game's Steam page.

Like so many gaming franchises, the video game world of Sonic has been pretty slow on the uptake of LGBTQ+ representation, so you never know, Sonic x Shadow Generations could see our titular hog coming out of the closet after 34 years. Cue all the typical complaints that Sonic has gone 'woke.'

This means Sonic x Shadow Generations is currently more known as an LGBTQ+ game than it is as "Action" or "Platformer."
At the time of writing, Sonic x Shadow Generations is in good company among the likes of the Our Life: Beginnings & Always visual novel and Life is Strange: True Colors. However, the release of Sonic x Shadow Generations suggests he could be exploring his sexuality.

Although not officially part of canon, the IDW Sonic comic characters of Tangle and Whisper are lesbians.
Comic and Sonic Frontiers writer Ian Flynn said on Twitter, "the majority" of those who worked on the characters assume they're lesbians. That's some true dedication right there.
It's also safe to say that Sonic fans are very much enjoying this Shadow resurgence we seem to be getting this year, having already dubbed 2024 the "Year of Shadow".

Those who've played 2011's Sonic Generations will know there weren't any gay themes, but with the addition of Shadow in the 2024 remake, it's raised a few eyebrows.

When you tend to think of LGBTQ+ characters in video games, the likes of The Last of Us' Ellie, Borderlands' Sir Hammerlock, Overwatch's Tracer, and Apex Legends' Gibraltar likely come to mind.

Still, it's extremely impressive that Sonadow fans have managed to make LGBTQ the most popular tag on Sonic X Shadow Generations, even ahead of its own genre. Sadly, he says he can't outright say it and doesn't "want folks disappointed if something changes down the line." Still, that won't stop us from shipping Whispangle.

The LGBTQ+ history of Sonic the Hedgehog

Even if Sonic and Shadow might not be putting their differences aside and admitting their love for each other, the Sonic games do have some LGBTQ+ history.

Flynn has also previously confirmed Sally Acorn is bisexual and Nicole the Holo-Lynx is a lesbian, while Don the Rooster is canonically gay, and a 25th-anniversary comic suggests that Amy is a bisexual icon who has feelings for Blaze. As the game is coming out later this year, who knows, Sonic and Shadow could be star-crossed lovers in the 2024 update.

Sonic X Shadow Generations was announced during PlayStation's latest State of Play showcase, a complete remaster of Sonic Generations with an additional campaign featuring Shadow the Hedgehog. Ironically, the romance options of The Sims 4 mean its Werewolves Game Pack is also in the LGBTQ+ category.
