Thanks for subscribing! Other key elements include modernizing the historic chandelier, revival of the iconic neon blade sign and marquee, and the installation of the world’s largest and most versatile digital organ.

Inside it can be slow on weekdays but wend your way to the rear, past the pool table, past the DJ booths and bathrooms, down the hallway lined with decades of gay memorabilia, to find the crowd chomping cigars and sharing cigarettes on the outdoor patio. An end-of-year & holiday celebration and fundraiser at Eureka Valley Recreation Center, 100 Collingwood St, SF (right around the corner from Rhino).

The dance floor, brightly lit and papered in tasteful black-and-white breasts, thumps to the beat of DJs on Friday and Saturday nights. Happy Hour ain't no slouch, either. Whether you’re looking for friendly lesbian bars, balls-to-the-wall Latinx dance parties or a very memorable drag show, these are the best gay bars in SF right now. RETURNING 2026!

The Castro Theatre is a world renowned iconic venue and cherished landmark.

This includes major renovations to accommodate a wider variety of entertainment; opening the venue for the first time to standing room musical performances while still maintaining the seated experience for cinema, comedy and more.

The re-opening will showcase the revitalization of the ceiling’s stunning original artwork along with the sgraffito murals and a long hidden historic proscenium, all masterfully restored by Evergreene Architectural Arts.

Best gay bars in San Francisco

Queer artistic expression thrives at Oasis, a club and cabaret theater in SoMa.

Live music on Thursday nights is a nice counterpoint to the often wild and unexpected Friday and Saturday night parties that feature everything from lube wrestling to gaymer nights.

Big, meaty men gravitate to this self-styled Bear Bar in SoMa. Opened in a former gay bathhouse in 2015 by San Francisco drag legends Heklina and D’Arcy Drollinger, the 8,000-foot space comes alive each weekend with a myriad of amazing performances, including ever-popular interpretations of classic TV shows like Sex and the CityThe Golden Girls and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Wednesday nights are for Miss Kitty's trivia, half comedy show, half competition. At Time Out, all of our travel guides are written by local writers who know their cities inside out. Weekends brunch fare like fried egg sandwiches and chicken and waffles pair perfectly with bottomless mimosas..

The Mix has a more laid-back approach to LGBTQ revelry than other spots in town.

Thursday and Friday nights Jolene's kitchen serves satisfying comfort fare with plenty of veggie options. Be sure to bring singles and plan to tip every girl. Located in the Castro Neighborhood, San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ cultural epicenter, this designated historic landmark is the heart of the community.
