Young Thug Says ‘Ninja’ by ‘This Gay Rapper Named Young Thug’ Is His ‘Gay Anthem’

Young Thug had an interesting response when asked to name his gay anthem on the 2025 GQ Men of The Year Awards red carpet last week.

Before giving his answer, Thug asked Ludwig Hurtado for Them for clarification regarding what "gay anthem" meant.

In a 2019 interview with Big Boy's Neighborhood, as reported by Complex, he was just as blunt.

"People judge me and say 'gay.' If people think that I'm gay, they've already misjudged. I just want at least one. I want a baby. The sentencing included a period of 10 years where the rapper can't return to Atlanta except for important events or to provide anti-gang and anti-violence presentations a few times a year.

During his time in custody and after he was released, leaked phone calls Williams made in jail suggested he had cheated on Mariah the Scientist shortly before his arrest and had been calling a group of other women while incarcerated.

Break-up rumors put to rest

In September, Young Thug posted on X that he was "wrong" and "sorry for what I put u through," seeming to apologize to Buckles for cheating.

"Thank you for everything and I will do anything to make this work.

"If any one of you motherfuckers say the N-word and you are white hard, I'm leaving. “I just want a commitment that doesn’t involve and obligation to a baby. "But I still got—I got a girl. I'm telling you," he said. "Just a song that you're, like, you know what, the gays kinda ate with this one," Hurtado responded.

Ain't nothing going down with no man," he said when asked about the persistent rumors.

He then made clear his position regarding others, commenting, "I don't have no problem with the [gay] community."

The 34-year-old, who once dressed in painted nails and dresses, conceded that pressure from outside had forced him to tone down his style.

"I had to dumb down," he explained, citing what he labeled as the world's failure to "catch on" to his creativity.

When questioned if this change was one of acceptance, he didn't waste a second agreeing.

She probably don’t got a boyfriend, but I got a girlfriend."

Days later, the rapper confirmed their reconciliation as he celebrated Mariah’s birthday. I'm the straightest man in the world. If you say N-I-G-G, you can't say 'nigg.'"

When TMZ caught up with Thug outside the GQ Men of the Year 2025 party, the artist confirmed he and Mariah the Scientist are still "going strong," and joked that he "just put a baby in her."

There’s a wedding in the air.

Young Thug and Mariah the Scientist are engaged after the “Go Crazy” rapper popped the question onstage in their hometown of Atlanta, Georgia during his Hometown Hero benefit concert Dec.

16.

In videos shared across social media, Thug (real name Jeffery Lamar Williams II) took the stage as the words “Will You Marry Me?” flashed on the screen behind him while he got down on one knee. And right before their engagement, Mariah also opened up about her hope for her next chapter.

“I want to settle down, I wanna be married,” Mariah told Angie Martinez during an interview with Power 105.1 on Dec.

13. The “Walked In” collaborators’ engagement comes four years after they began their relationship in 2021.

And after months of breakup speculation earlier this year, Thug confirmed their brief split in October.

"I got broke up with,” Thug told Adin Ross in a livestream at the time. But the artist had a surprise up his sleeve.

Partway through the Atlanta local's "Hometown Hero" performance, he was joined by girlfriend Mariah the Scientist on stage before dropping down to one knee.

"Will you marry me?" flashed brightly on the screen behind him and cheers erupted from the crowd, videos show.

"Guess I'm getting married," Mariah the Scientist says into the microphone.

The couple, whose real names are Jeffery Williams and Mariah Buckles, have had a public on-and-off relationship since 2021.

The "Hometown Hero" show, labeled a benefit concert, was put on to feature the Grammy-award winning rapper's fourth solo album, UY Scuti, released earlier this year.

Relationship rattled by leaked jail calls

In May 2022, Young Thug and 27 others were arrested in Georgia and accused of violating the Racketeer Influences and Corrupt Organizations Act, or a RICO case.

A 56-count indictment brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis accused Williams of being the leader of Young Stoner Life, a group with a history of violent street crime and other offenses.

Young Thug eventually pled guilty in 2024, and was sentenced to time served and probation.

A few days later he posted "AI jail calls is crazy," with a laughing emoji.

Now, three months later, Mariah The Scientist was just one of the guests at the "Hometown Hero" concert, and as she finished a song, Young Thug walked up behind her with ring in hand.

Overly," he explained.

Prior to hitting the ComplexCon stage in Las Vegas, Thug appeared on a livestream with Adin Ross where he shared plans to warn the white people in the crowd about reciting the lyrics, which features the N-word several times.

"If I look at one of you motherfucking white people in this crowd, if any of y'all saying that, I'm leaving.

I hate guys. He spent over 900 days incarcerated as part of the YSL RICO case prior to obtaining release in October of 2024 in a plea deal.

Since his return home, the artist has redirected his focus to music.
