On Saturday, the 24-year-old daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe took to Instagram to ring in the first day of the celebratory month, over two years after she first spoke about her sexuality.

"Once upon a time, some gal on the internet said 'gender is whatever' in reference to her own sexuality," Ava captioned the photo of her posed in front of a pond, waving a rainbow flag.

"My Instagram profile is not a place for cruelty/hate speech & I intend to do what I can to keep it that way. "My Instagram profile is not a place for cruelty/hate speech & I intend to do what I can to keep it that way. "I saw 2 different strangers commenting on my body. The video is set to a cover version of No Doubt's '90s hit, "Just a Girl."

"NBD but I just achieved a major milestone as a woman online," the message reads.

For her mother's part, Reese—who also shares 20-year-oldDeacon Phillippe and 11-year-old Tennessee Tothwith exes Ryan Phillippe and Jim Toth, respectively—supported her daughter by giving the post a double tap. Anyways, this is her posting for the first day of pride month 2024."

In the accompanying image, Ava posed—in sunglasses, a red crop top and cargo pants—in front of a pond during golden hour while waving a rainbow flag.

When she encountered backlash for her response, Ava quickly shut down the rude comments.

"Quick reminder. She wants to do great things in the world," Witherspoon said. I love you, Ava!!"

Ava Phillippe Kicks Off Pride Month, Reflects on Past Remarks About Sexuality and Gender

Ava Phillippe is kicking off Pride Month with a moment of reflection.

(Gender is whatever)."

You would think that was clear enough, but apparently, people were stillconfused (with some failing to realize she meant gender is whatever, as in it doesn't matter to her), which is why Ava hopped online to straighten it out once and for all.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote, "Once upon a time, some gal on the internet said 'gender is whatever' in reference to her own sexuality.

Happy Pride, everyone!

Looking for more LGBTQ+ or Pride content? (Gender is whatever)," she wrote.

At the time, Ava was dating Owen Mahoney.

You might remember, she first addressed her sexuality during an Instagram AMA in 2022. "Happy Birthday to my sweet little girl…excuse me… I mean my adult daughter!!!" she wrote.

As she put it to E! News in 2021, "It makes me feel good, in more ways than one, to be able to share and be real with people on social media as much as is possible."

Phillippe is the eldest child of Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, and big sister to Deacon Reese Phillippe, 18.

"I'm attracted to… people!" she wrote in text across a picture of herself wearing blue eye shadow, adding in parentheses, "Gender is whatever."

Phillippe is currently in a relationship with Owen Mahoney, a fellow UC Berkeley student whom she began dating circa 2019. She's also a half-sibling to 8-year-old Tennessee James Toth, whom Witherspoon shares with her current husband, talent agent Jim Toth.

"She's studying and learning and trying to find herself.

In November, Witherspoon opened up to InStyle about the unique experiences of her children, who, unlike the actress, were raised around fame. Many took her words out of context, but she knew what she meant."

"Anyways, this is her post for the first day of pride month 2024," Ava continued, attaching a picture of her waving a rainbow scarf to the post.

She also wished a "Happy Pride Month" to "my LGBTQ+ community" and the haters in the comments in a subsequent IG story.

Though, as you can see, the comments mainly included love and positivity.

And if there's still any confusion, she liked this comment, too.

There you have it.

It's a big thing in life to try different things and figure out what is really your path."

Phillippe recently celebrated her 22nd birthday, in September.
