When they’re not performing, the drag queens work behind the bar serving drinks and bringing glamour to any conversation they take part in.
Everyone is welcome. Let me know if you would like any other changes!
This beautifully charming/exotically seedy locale boasts plenty of reasons to call itself an LGBTQ+ icon. In summer the canal-side patio is perfect for catching some rays (or simply watching the world go by).
It holds regular one-off nights, with drag acts and DJs – don’t miss the infamous ‘Drag Bingo’. Key attractions include the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum and the Museum of Sex.
World-Class Accommodations
With some of the best gay hotels, clubs and bars on the planet, Amsterdam offers LGBTQ+ travelers a truly unique and vibrant visit.
Downstairs can get a little packed, but there’s more seating and space upstairs, where you get a great view of the bustling street below.
De Lellebel is a tiny drag bar where the cross-dressing clientele provides all the entertainment themselves. There’s also the utter fabulousness of having Prosecco – or, as they call it, PRIK wine – on tap.
The newest addition to Amsterdam’s lesbian scene, this cosy space has a relaxed and welcoming vibe and aims to be ‘a platform for and by women’.
Since it is just a short walk from Central Station, this is the perfect place for first or last drinks on a visit to Amsterdam. Along the way, the Homomonument, a poignant tribute to LGBTQ+ rights, stands as a silent sentinel, reminding us of the struggles endured and the victories celebrated.
For those who seek a brush with history and culture, the Rijksmuseum awaits with open doors, its halls lined with masterpieces that have witnessed centuries of change.
Tuesdays are karaoke nights and highly recommended. Think again, my friend.

Amsterdam gay bars and queer spots are scattered throughout the whole city too. But the real draw is the large, second-floor darkroom, which has a cruising area, private cabins, a sling room and smoking areas.
Mankind is a quiet locals’ hangout tucked down a side street near the Rijksmuseum and the antique shops and art galleries of Spiegelstraat.
It has it all, plus more: a bar with Greek-style columns, a stage perfect for drag-queen acts, a great sound and light system and various dark, dark chambers... The friendly atmosphere, funky interior design (keep an eye on the changing decorations sported by the dumb-waiter), extensive cocktail menu and a selection of burgers named after famous Amsterdam drag queens make Getto the kind of place where “one drink” turns into an entire night.
The interior can get a bit cramped as people flock to the shows, but it is always worth the tight quarters. This two level bar has enough of a club vibe to make the perfect launch pad for a night of dancing and club hopping. Think again, my friend.
